Increased Solar Activity Results In Decrease In Hurricane Intensity

James Elsner

New research has suggested that increased solar activity - associated with sunspots - means more ultraviolet radiation reaching the upper atmosphere Terre, with a consequent drop in hurricane intensity. He said that he has identified a 10 - to 12 years in the cycle of hurricane records that match the solar cycle, where the sun rises and the magnetic activity falls. According to a report in Nature News, James Elsner, a climatologist at Florida State University in Tallahassee, analyzed data hurricane back over a century.
